Writing the Sacred Elements

A 1-1 Mentorship for Writers Called to Sacred Activism

Align Your Voice with the Elements. Let Your Words Become Prayers.

Earth. Water. Fire. Air.

These forces are not outside of you—they are you. The wind of your breath, the spark animating your heart, the rivers of blood pulsing through your veins, and the earth holding your every step.

Yet, we live in a time of profound disconnection.

The dominant society has normalized a way of life that treats nature as separate, a resource to use, and, too often, to abuse. Many of us feel the pain of this imbalance. We feel, and we long to return—to listen, to remember, and to give voice to the land and waters that birthed us.

Maybe you already write from this place. Or maybe you sense a quiet knowing—that your voice belongs in this conversation, but you're not yet sure how to bring it forward. Perhaps you long for your words to ripple outward, contributing to waves of change.

This mentorship is about writing with nature. Together, we will practice communing with the elements—as living forces who are speaking, revealing, guiding. By bringing the elements so close that we remember we are made of them, we become vessels for change. Here, our words become prayers—prayers for a world that is not only sustainable, but interconnected and thriving.

Writing is a practice of actively invoking the world you long to see.

Writing is a craft, and it’s also magic. This mentorship is a space to write your tender urgency to care for this Earth, while rooting yourself in interconnectedness.

From this place, you create work to touch people’s hearts, and inspire action.

This mentorship weaves together:

  • Elemental communion – Through ritual, embodiment practice, and direct listening, deepen your relationship with Earth, Water, Fire, and Air.

  • Writing craft – With craft study specifically designed for your writing path, hone the skills that bring your voice into resonance. This will include personalized prompts, feedback from me on your work, weekly writing practices, and recommended readings for your unique journey.

  • Sacred activism – How do you envision your words rippling out as a force of connection and change? What specific issues do you care most deeply about, and how can your work be a force for transformation? Together we’ll explore these questions, in the context of writing for change.

Each session will integrate all three of these dimensions, with the emphasis attuned to your unique needs.

Writing as

Sacred Activism

Who is This Mentorship For?

  • Writers who feel called to explore the intersection of creative expression, earth-based ritual, and sacred activism.

  • Those who are seeking deep, personalized mentorship to refine their voice.

  • Those working in creative nonfiction (memoir, essays, nature writing) who want in-depth craft support.

  • Writers drawn to visionary, intuitive, or channeled forms of writing—where words come through as transmission, insight, or poetic expression.

  • Those who understand or intuit that writing, nature, and activism are inseparable—who are open to exploring environmental writing as part of the work of decolonization and reclaiming ancestral ways of knowing.

  • Writers who support queer and trans liberation, racial justice, and equity—understanding that our relationship with the natural world cannot be separated from the histories that have shaped it. You definitely don’t need to have all the answers, but you must be open and willing to engage with integrity.

🌿The elemental practices and sacred activism woven into this mentorship are meaningful across all genres. My craft feedback is most attuned to nonfiction—supporting writers who seek clarity, depth, and resonance in storytelling rooted in lived experience—while also holding space for intuitive, channeled, and visionary forms of expression.

Reclaiming Connection: A Five-Month Writing Journey

Your writing is not separate from the rivers and forests. This mentorship is about stepping into your voice as a force of remembrance and transformation. It’s about writing as an offering—for the Earth, for your ancestors, for future generations.

Each month, we will deepen into the elements, allowing them to shape our writing, our presence, our relationship with the world, and our ability to express what we know to be true.

  • We begin with roots. Earth is the steady ground beneath your feet, the deep roots of knowing, the home that holds you.

    In this phase, we explore:

🌿 Elemental Communion: Deepening gratitude for the Earth, attuning to stillness and presence.

✍️ Craft Development: Working with structure, sensory detail, and immersive scenes.

🌎 Sacred Activism: Exploring how land is not just landscape but relationship. How do we acknowledge the histories of the places we live and write from? How do we write as an act of reciprocity?

By the end of this month, your writing will feel rooted and ready to grow.

  • Water moves through everything. It carves through stone, it carries prayers, it connects all life.

    In this phase, we explore:

💧 Elemental Communion: Learning to write from sensation, emotion, and intuitive flow, with water as your guide.

✍️ Craft Development: Writing with fluidity and emotional resonance that will help your readers feel moved and inspired.

🌎 Sacred Expression: This month, we explore water protection as an act of reverence. How do we use writing to advocate for rivers, lakes, oceans, and the people who depend on them? How do we write with water, not just about it?

By the end of this month, your writing will feel like a current, flowing in connection with this source of life.

  • Fire is the spark of creation, the heat of transformation. It is the force that turns vision into action.

    In this phase, we explore:

🔥 Elemental Communion: Writing from passion, while cultivating the courage to share boldly.

✍️ Craft Development: Bring the fire of transformation into your writing.

🌎 Sacred Activism: Fire is the force of transformation, but it is also the element most out of balance in our time. This month, we examine our relationship with fire. How do we balance destruction with regeneration? How do we harness fire’s energy in writing?

By the end of this month, you will feel the fire in your voice, the courage to let it be heard.

  • Air carries prayers. It moves between all things, unseen yet essential.

    In this phase, we explore:

🌬 Elemental Communion: Listening to the wind, to your breath, to the air that touches all beings.

✍️ Craft Development: Refining voice, cultivating your capacity to clarify and hone ideas and carry them into the world.

🌎 Sacred Activism: Words are breath, and breath is life. Writing carries truth across time and space—it can illuminate the unseen, shift collective narratives, and breathe possibility into the future. This month, we explore air as a force of connection and change. How can our words help restore balance in a world struggling for breath? How can we write in service to clean air, environmental justice, and the atmosphere that holds us all?

By the end of this month, your words will be ready to take flight—carried by the wind, offered as incantations for change.

  • The final month is a space for synthesis, refinement, and deep integration.

    This is where we:

🌿 Revisit the elements that are calling for more time or attention.

💧 Strengthen the connection between practice, craft, and expression.

🔥 Cultivate sustained creative rhythms beyond the mentorship.

🌎 Discuss next steps for sharing your writing, whether in personal, communal, or public spaces.

This month ensures that your practice doesn’t end here—it becomes part of your life.

Commitment & Time Investment

To fully receive the transformation this mentorship offers, I suggest committing at least 5 hours a week to writing and practice.

That said, I am intimately aware of time constraints such as parenting and caregiving, and I know powerful work can happen in the tiny in-between moments or even in the midst of other activities. The elements are always present in every moment. It's more about dedication to the work than a quantity of time. I am more than happy to tailor your program for the way your life actually looks.

About Me & My Approach

I relate to writing as a form of magic. From the depths of our love and care for this world, we bring words to paper or screen. This is a sacred act—to interact and feel deeply with the world around us and within us, then bring that into form, and share it.

In a world so profoundly out of balance, words have the power to shape consciousness, to connect with the unseen, to make visible that which can heal or create anew. For me, writing and activism are spiritual practices. A way of bringing love into form. And truthfully, writing just makes me happy.

I hold an MFA in creative nonfiction writing, and my work has appeared in Open Rivers Journal, Mn Artists, Earth Island Journal, Braided Way, Pensive Journal, and others.

In addition to my creative practice, I serve as the Creative Program Director for Waankam: People for the Estuary, a Rights of Nature initiative focused on the sovereignty of the St. Louis River Estuary. Through this work, I have had the opportunity to learn from Indigenous leaders, whose perspectives on ecological reciprocity and interconnectedness have profoundly influenced my approach to storytelling—and to being human.

I am grateful for many teachers on my path. I’ve been immersed in spiritual practice for 20 years, including study and practice within Yogic traditions. While I do not teach these traditions, they have shaped me in untold ways. I have completed master-level training in coaching, with extensive experience guiding developmental transformation—skills that deeply inform my approach to mentorship.

Lately, my practice has been leading me back to the traditions of my own ancestry in Northern Europe, seeking to reconnect with what may have been lost but still feels alive in my bones.

Ultimately, my greatest teachers have been the elements themselves—specifically Lake Superior and the Boreal Forest of Northern Minnesota.

I would be honored to share this journey with you as we cultivate your writing practice—grounded in your love and care for this world.

    • Have a deep connection with the land and want to explore writing as a form of sacred activism.

    • Already be an activist, and are seeking a deeper connection with the elements you’re working to protect.

    • Feel that words move through you but struggle to find structure or clarity.

    • Want to write with more fluidity, resonance, and presence.

    • Be longing to bring your voice into the world in a more intentional way.

If this mentorship speaks to something in you, that’s enough. You are welcome here.

  • This mentorship is a deep, immersive experience, and I want to ensure it’s the right fit for both of us. The application helps me understand:

    • Where you are in your creative journey and what support you need.

    • What draws you to this mentorship and how you hope to grow through it.

    • Whether this container is the right space for you at this time.

I also invite you to share a piece of your writing—anything that holds energy for you. It doesn’t have to be polished or “perfect.” It could be:

    • A page from your journal

    • A piece of freewriting or a rough draft

    • A social media post where you expressed something meaningful

    • A poem, essay excerpt, or anything else that feels alive for you

This is not about evaluation—it’s simply a way for me to connect with your voice and where you are in your process.

After reviewing applications, I invite selected applicants to a brief discovery call so we can both make sure this is the right space for you.

If you’re feeling called to this work, I encourage you to apply. You don’t have to be an experienced writer—just someone willing to explore, listen, and grow.
